How to Google Effectively?

Filed under: Ebooks — admin @ 8:35 am

Google is the best search engine ever. Every time you search for a specific word in Google, it searches its tremendous database with more than 20 billion (and always growing) web pages indexed. Although Google use very efficient algorithm for ranking its results, following tips are always can be useful for finding the best results:

  1. Do a file specific search by using {/filetype:} keyword. For example if you want to file a presentation about pressure vessel you can use {Pressure Vessel /filetype:ppt} as a possibly good keywords.
  2. Use non-relevant document related words: It is not always necessary to use words relevant to your idea. sometimes you should use some words that are document specific. For example if you are looking for a paper regarding “pressure vessels” you can use {Abstract References} as well as {Pressure Vessel} to narrow your search.
  3. If you want to find ebooks and other materials that may be shared by someone on public file hostings your can add {(Rapidshare OR filefactory OR 4shared OR megaupload OR depositfiles OR mihd OR easyshare)} to your search keywords. Any other file hosting names can be added to the above list with OR keyword.
  4. If you want to find a specific book, first search for the book in Amazon.com or in Books.google.com and find ISBN number of the book. Then google for the ISBN number with the keywords presented in item 3.
  5. Use {/site:} keyword to search specific sites. For example if you want to find to something in Australian universities add {/site:edu.au}to your site.
  6. Don’t limit yourself to the first page of the results. I always find my best results even in 20th or 30th pages.
  7. Narrow the results by using phrases. For Example using {“Pressure Vessels” } as keyword is always better than {Pressure Vessels}
  8. Google always searches for other combinations of the words. You can omit it by using quotation for a single word.
  9. If you cannot memorize all google keywords, simply use Google Advance Search.
  10. Always try other search engines. Sometimes you may find something valuable.
PS: Remove {} from all keywords.
